This standard covers audiometers used in determining the hearing threshold level of an individual. There are two general classes of audiometers: pure tone and speech.

29 CFR 1910.95(h)(5)(iii) | Employers must ensure an exhaustive audiometer calibration is performed at least every two years in accordance with sections 4.1.2; 4.1.3.; 4.1.4.3; 4.2; 4.4.1; 4.4.2; 4.4.3; and 4.5 of the American National Standard Specification for Audiometers, S3.6-1969. 29 CFR 1910.95 Appendix D | Rooms used for audiometric testing must not have background sound pressure levels exceeding those in Table D-1 when measured by equipment conforming at least to the Type 2 requirements of American National Standard Specification for Sound Level Meters, S1.4-1971 (R1976), and to the Class II requirements of American National Standard Specification for Octave, Half-Octave, and Third-Octave Band Filter Sets, S1.11-1971 (R1976). | ANSI S3.6-69 Specifications for Audiometers. |
