Wyoming has adopted 390.15 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs). Section 390.15 includes accident recordkeeping requirements.

Section 390.15 applies to vehicles operating intrastate with a gross vehicle weight rating, gross combination weight rating, gross vehicle weight, or gross combination weight of 26,001 pounds or more, or transporting hazardous materials in a quantity requiring placarding.

Accident reporting - Motor carrier

NotificationThe driver must notify local law enforcement if the accident results in:
  • Death
  • Injury
  • Property damage ≥ $1,000 or
  • Disablement of the vehicle, preventing normal and safe operation
Reporting TimeframeImmediately

Obtaining an accident report

ProcedureA copy of an officer’s crash report may be obtained by writing to the Wyoming Department of Transportation and sending the required fee.
Requests must include:
  • The name(s) of the driver(s) involved
  • The date and location of the crash
  • The case number (if you have it) and
  • Your phone number and email address
Fee$3.00 for each crash report
