Notwithstanding the requirements of this subpart, Class DOT–106A and 110AW multi-unit tank car tanks may be designed, constructed, inspected, tested, and certified in accordance with ASME Code Section XII (IBR, see §171.7 of this subchapter) in conjunction with the NBIC (IBR, see §171.7 of this subchapter), and in accordance with the conditions and limitations of §173.252 of this subchapter.
