Quick tip for Hazard Assessment Frequency: Answer

Answer: Hazard assessments are required by for General Industry employers by 1910.132(d)(1) which states the following: The employer shall assess the workplace to determine if hazards are present, or are likely to be present, which necessitate the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). There is no set time frame tied to the standard, but hazard assessments are to be conducted when there is a change in a process that could impact these assessments. Even if you think that the facility never changes, a 3-year review cycle is a common and industry best practice. If there are changes, the assessments should be updated as soon as possible and checked at least annually. OSHA compliance officers will often compare the certified hazard assessment to make sure it matched what is actually observed in the work areas. There are no exemptions to the requirement to conduct these assessments. One benefit to note on these assessments is that they are required to determine the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) for your employees. The assessment can help you keep up with the most effective and comfortable PPE so they’re more likely to wear it when required.
