This standard provides a test method that covers the atmospheric distillation of petroleum products using a laboratory batch distillation unit. This method is used to determine, quantitatively, the boiling range characteristics of such products.
Current edition
- ASTM D86-18 Standard Test Method for Distillation of Petroleum Products and Liquid Fuels at Atmospheric Pressure
Incorporation by reference
The following editions have been incorporated by reference (IBR) into the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR):
| IBR approved for | Overview of requirements | IBR approved edition |
|---|---|---|
| 29 CFR 1910.106(a)(5) | As used in 1910.106, boiling point means the boiling point of a liquid at a pressure of 14.7 pounds per square inch absolute (p.s.i.a.) (760 mm.). Where an accurate boiling point is unavailable for the material in question, or for mixtures which do not have a constant boiling point, for purposes of 1910.106 the 10 percent point of a distillation performed in accordance with the Standard Method of Test for Distillation of Petroleum Products, ASTM D-86-62, may be used as the boiling point of the liquid. | ASTM D86-62 Test for Distillation of Petroleum Products. |
| 29 CFR 1910.119(b) | Where an accurate boiling point is unavailable for the material in question, or for mixtures which do not have a constant boiling point, the 10 percent point of a distillation performed in accordance with the Standard Method of Test for Distillation of Petroleum Products, ASTM D-86-62, may be used as the boiling point of the liquid. | ASTM D86-62 Test for Distillation of Petroleum Products. |
| 29 CFR 1910.1200 Appendix B.6.3 | The flash point shall be determined in accordance with ASTM D56-05, ASTM D3278, ASTM D3828, ASTM D93-08, or any other method specified in GHS Revision 3, Chapter 2.6. The initial boiling point shall be determined in accordance with ASTM D86-07a or ASTM D1078. | ASTM D86-07a Standard Test Method for Distillation of Petroleum Products at Atmospheric Pressure. |
