Driver hiring–Strategies for finding and keeping drivers

Virtual Conference
Date: Thursday, Jul 27 2023
Time: 01:00 PM (CST)
Duration: 60 Minutes

Event occurred on July 27, 2023, and is no longer open to registration.

Finding and keeping qualified drivers has never been more challenging. Join our experts and industry peers to share ideas on what is and is not working.

Attendee breakout groups led by our moderators will discuss lessons learned and best practices for finding, screening, and hiring qualified drivers by answering questions such as:

  1. How are you getting your company name out there, getting potential driver contacts, and what recent changes to your recruiting process made the most difference? Consider answers to these more specific questions:
    • How do you use social media most effectively in the recruiting process?
    • How have you streamlined the recruiting and onboarding process, think pre-COVID to now?
    • How do you get applicants vetted and through the process faster to offer them a job?
    • Do you offer sign-on bonuses and/or retention bonuses? Are they effective?
  2. Do you emphasize career options, work-life balance, or aspects of your company other than pay when recruiting? Are these non-pay elements effective in recruiting and retaining drivers? What roles beyond "driver" do you offer and which are the most interesting to prospects?
    • Dedicated routes that get a driver more home time.
    • Training roles to help new drivers learn requisite skills like backing, winter-driving, etc. Entry-level driver trainer (ELDT).
    • Mentor roles, help new drivers learn how to thrive in the role and within the company policies and procedures.
    • Office roles on a rotational basis. Examples are dispatcher, driver liaison, recruiter.
Other career or work-life balance options?

We will share each group's relevant points so you can benefit from the collective wisdom.
