System Administrator Appreciation Day

The last Friday in July celebrates those who keep the computer systems working. Remember, the “white collar” computer employee exemption is for systems analysts, programmers, software engineers, etc. To qualify, employees must design or create hardware or software. The salary basis rule (i.e., same weekly salary) does not apply. These employees can be paid hourly, and the exemption from overtime means they get the same hourly rate (not time and a half) after 40 hours. The exemption does not, however, include help desk technicians.
