The Hawaii Occupational Safety and Health Division (HIOSH) has adopted most OSHA standards related to state and local government and private employers. HIOSH has amended 29 CFR 1926.200(g)(2) to state that road construction workers must conform to the December 2000 (Millennium) edition of the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). Hawaii also includes state-specific definitions for the terms “signs,” “signals,” and “barricades” in section (b)(1) of the 12-110-50 regulation.
Note that some states have requirements for work zones and flaggers that fall under the state’s Department of Transportation regulations, in addition to the OSHA-related requirements listed here.
