Why is it important to thoroughly test any confined space?
Testing must be done at all depths because some gases are heavier than others and gases are not uniformly mixed within a confined space. Air sampling should be done in four-foot increments vertically and horizontally, including corners and low spots, to ensure that all potential hazards are identified. Make sure that you allow time to accommodate sampling speed and detector response.
