Who must obtain cargo insurance?

A household goods carrier must obtain cargo insurance. This security is required to compensate individual shippers for loss or damage to property belonging to them.

The carrier must obtain the following levels of insurance:

$5,000 for loss of or damage to property carried on any one motor vehicle; and
$10,000 for loss of or damage to or aggregate of losses or damages of or to property occurring at any one time and place.
