Motor carriers are required under Sec. 390.15 to keep an accident register listing certain information for each accident a carrier experiences. The definition of accident, for these purposes, is an occurrence involving a commercial motor vehicle that results in:
- A fatality;
- Injury to a person requiring immediate treatment away from the scene; or
- Disabling damage to a vehicle requiring it to be towed from the scene.
For each accident that meets one of these criteria, the motor carrier is required to list required information in an accident register.
