A carrier’s safety rating is a matter of public information. A carrier can easily check the information listed on its current USDOT registration via the internet. The Safety Electronic Records System (SAFER) provides a carrier with a Carrier Snapshot, a concise electronic record of a carrier’s:

Identification;
Size;
Commodity Information; and
Safety record, including safety rating (if any) and roadside out-of-service inspection information.

SAFER can be accessed at https://safer.fmcsa.dot.gov/. Information posted on the SAFER website is also available by calling (800) 832-5660.
