Hazardous materials shipping papers shall be clearly distinguished from other papers by either distinctively tabbing them, or by placing them first on top of all other papers.

When a driver is in a seat restrained by a seat belt, the shipping papers must be within reach and readily visible to a person entering the driver’s compartment, or in a holder mounted to the inside of the driver’s door.

When a driver is not at the vehicle’s controls, shipping papers shall be on the driver’s seat or in a holder mounted on the inside of the driver’s door. [177.817(e)]
