When does an owner-operator have to be in my DOT random selection?

When leased and operating under your authority, an owner-operator is considered your driver for compliance purposes. The leased driver must be in as many DOT random pools as “employed,” meaning under whose authority they are working.

If the owner-operator does any work on their own as a for-hire carrier, they must also participate in a consortium for compliance under their own USDOT number.
