A name listed in the Hazardous Materials Table that most accurately describes the material being shipped shall be used. There are generic “use” names, such as, “Compound, cleaning liquid,” “Pesticides, liquid, toxic, n.o.s.,” etc. that can be used. When there is no “use” name, a name based on the hazard of the material may be used, such as, “Flammable, liquid, n.o.s.,” “Corrosive, liquid, n.o.s.,” etc. However, in using a generic name the regulations may require use of the technical name(s) of one or more chemicals providing the hazard characteristic. For example, “Corrosive liquid, n.o.s. (Caprylyl chloride).” [172.203(k)]
