“Verification” is the final step in a lockout/tagout procedure. The machine should try to be started and ran using the operating controls. Also, locks and tags should be checked to ensure they are attached where they belong and that the energy isolating devices are in the “off” position. Gauges might also need to be checked or test equipment used to evaluate temperatures, pressures, or to check for the presence of gases, vapors, or liquid.
Remember, each authorized employee should verify the lockout if there is more than one person working on the machine.
