The DSMS is a component of the overall Safety
Measurement System (SMS) under the Federal Motor Carrier Safety
Administration's Compliance, Safety, Accountability (CSA) program.
The DSMS is a tool that enables enforcement personnel to assess
individual drivers in the Behavior Analysis and Safety Improvement
Categories (BASICs) using 36 months of roadside performance data
across employers.
The DSMS does not impact a driver's Commercial
Driver's License. Neither drivers nor employing motor carriers nor
the general public have access to the DSMS. While carriers are
prioritized for intervention based on the SMS, drivers are only
investigated during a carrier investigation. Therefore, no
intervention thresholds are in place for drivers.
