What is De Quervain's disease?

Pronounced “dih-kwer-VAINs” disease, it is a condition that affects the tendons near the base of thumb near the wrist, making it painful to turn the wrist, make a fist, or grasp objects.
The cause of the disease remains elusive; however, studies show that symptoms are aggravated by repetitive wrist or hand motions, such as turning knobs or lifting things. It is sometimes referred to as “gamer’s thumb.” Person’s with the condition may feel pain or swelling near the base of the thumb, making even the simplest tasks difficult.
