State Info
Oklahoma is a constitutional carry state, which means law-abiding adults 21 years and older (18 if active or veteran military) who can legally possess a firearm under federal and state law may carry a concealed handgun without obtaining a permit. This extends to carrying a weapon in a private vehicle.
Permits
Concealed handgun licenses (known as SDA licenses in Oklahoma) are not required but may be useful for reciprocity with other states. Licenses are issued by local county sheriffs’ offices. Licenses are valid for either five or 10 years. Oklahoma has broad reciprocity with other states; it recognizes permits from all other states and allows permitless carry for those who reside in another permitless-carry state.
Other weapons
Oklahoma does not permit concealed carry of any other weapons. Handguns larger than .45 caliber or greater than 16 inches in length are prohibited.
Permitted non-lethal weapons include:
- Stun guns/tasers
- Pepper spray
- Tear gas
- Bear spray (legal for self-defense against wildlife)
- Bludgeons/batons (unless used with criminal intent)
- Brass knuckles
- Less-lethal launchers
Duty to inform
There is no duty to inform in Oklahoma unless asked by law enforcement.
Employee parking lots
Employers in Oklahoma may not prohibit employees from transporting and storing lawfully carried weapons in a locked motor vehicle in an employee parking lot.
