Missouri is a constitutional carry state, which means law-abiding adults 19 years and older who can legally possess a firearm under federal and state law may carry a concealed handgun without obtaining a permit. The right extends to concealed carry in a private vehicle, as long as the weapon is not removed from the vehicle or brandished while in a restricted area as determined by the state.
Permits
Permits are not required but may be useful for reciprocity with other states. Concealed carry permits (CCPs) are issued by local county sheriffs and are open to qualified residents only (except for active duty and retired military stationed in Missouri). Applicants will be required to complete a firearms training course. As a constitutional carry state, Missouri has broad reciprocity with other states.
Other weapons
No other weapons are allowed to be concealed carried in Missouri.
Permitted non-lethal weapons include:
- Stun guns/tasers
- Pepper spray
- Tear gas
- Bear spray (legal for self-defense against wildlife)
- Bludgeons/batons
- Brass knuckles
- Less-lethal launchers
Duty to inform
Missouri state law requires drivers to notify police of the presence of a concealed weapon during traffic stops or at weigh stations only if asked by a law enforcement officer.
Employee parking lots
This issue is not addressed in Missouri law.
