Georgia is a constitutional carry state, which means law-abiding adults 21 and over who can legally possess a firearm under federal and state law may carry a concealed handgun without obtaining a permit. Any person who is legally allowed to carry a handgun may carry it without a license in that person’s own vehicle (owned or rented) or with the permission of the person who legally controls the vehicle.
Permits
Permits are not required but may be useful for reciprocity with other states. Georgia Weapons Carry Licenses (WCLs) are issued by county probate courts. Georgia has broad reciprocity with other states.
Other weapons
Other weapons that may be carried include knives (with license/permit).
Permitted non-lethal weapons include:
- Stun guns/tasers (school-related restrictions)
- Pepper spray
- Bear spray (for defense against wildlife)
- Bludgeons/batons
- Brass knuckles (require a concealed carry permit)
- Less-lethal launchers
Duty to inform
There is no duty to inform in the state of Georgia.
Employee parking lots
Employers may not prohibit storage of a lawfully owned firearm in an employee vehicle. Some restrictions apply.
