State Info
In Connecticut, concealed carry of a firearm is legal for adults aged 21 and older who are allowed by state and federal law to possess a firearm and who have a Connecticut Pistol Permit (CTPP). Non-residents with a valid concealed carry weapons license from another state may apply for a CTPP.
Handguns may be carried in private vehicles with a valid permit; otherwise, weapons must be unloaded and both weapon and ammunition stored in separate locked containers. Weapons must be locked in a trunk, a safe, or other safe storage compartment when the vehicle is unattended.
Permits
CTPPs require completion of a state-approved firearms training course that includes firing exercises. Permits are issued via local authorities (temporary permit) and then the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection. Connecticut does not offer reciprocity to any other states.
Magazine capacity limits
Connecticut law limits magazine capacity to no more than 10 rounds.
Other weapons
No weapons other than handguns may be concealed carried in Connecticut.
Permitted non-lethal weapons include:
- Stun guns/tasers (21 and with a valid carry credential)
- Pepper spray
- Bear spray (legal for use against wildlife)
- Less-lethal launchers (the law is ambiguous)
Duty to inform
State law does not require drivers to notify police of the presence of a concealed weapon during traffic stops or at weigh stations.
Employee parking lots
The issue of concealed weapons in a privately-owned vehicle in an employer parking lot is not addressed in Connecticut state law.
