State Info
Arizona is a constitutional carry state, which means law-abiding adults 21 years and older who can legally possess a firearm under federal and state law may carry a concealed handgun without obtaining a permit.
Permits
Permits are not required but may be useful for reciprocity with other states. The Arizona Department of Public Safety issues permits.
Other weapons
A permit allows for the carry of firearms, both loaded and unloaded, as well as deadly weapons which includes anything designed for lethal use.
Permitted non-lethal weapons include:
- Stun guns/tasers
- Pepper spray
- Tear gas
- Bear spray
- Brass knuckles
- Bludgeons/batons
- Less-lethal launchers
Duty to inform
Arizona state law requires drivers to notify police of the presence of a concealed weapon during traffic stops or at weigh stations if asked by a law enforcement officer.
Employee parking lots
A property owner, tenant, public or private employer or business entity may not make or enforce a policy that prohibits a person from lawfully transporting or lawfully storing a firearm if both of the following apply:
- The firearm is in a person’s locked and privately-owned motor vehicle.
- The firearm is not visible from the outside of the motor vehicle.
However, employers may enforce such a policy if they provide a parking lot, parking garage, or other parking area that:
- Is secured by a fence or other physical barrier;
- Limits access by a guard or other security measure;
- Provides temporary and secure firearm storage which is monitored and readily accessible on entry into the premises and allows for the immediate retrieval of the firearm on exit from the premises; or
- Provides alternative parking in a location reasonably proximate to the primary parking area for individuals who desire to transport or store a firearm and does not charge an extra fee for such parking.
