State Child Labor Laws: Florida’s Department of Business and Professional Regulation administers Florida’s Child Labor Law. Minors are exempt from Child Labor Law if they are married; divorced; have served or currently serve in the Armed Forces; have already graduated from high school; have earned a GED; or have been declared an emancipated minor by the court.

The law restricts hours of work and prohibits employment in hazardous occupations.

Youths under the age of 18 cannot work during school hours unless they are exempt, are given a partial waiver, or are enrolled in a school-work experience program, vocational education or other program declared exempt by the state of Florida.

The Florida child labor requirements can be found in Title 31, Chapter 450, Part I, Sections 450.001 through 450.161 of the Florida Statutes.

State Minimum Wage:

Effective September 30, 2026, the Florida minimum wage is $15.00 per hour. The state's minimum tip wage is $11.98 per hour.

Effective September 20, 2025, the Florida minimum wage is $14.00 per hour. The state's minimum tip wage is $10.95 per hour.

Effective September 30, 2024, the Florida minimum wage is $13.00 per hour. The state's minimum tip wage is $9.98 per hour.

Each employer who pays employees the Florida minimum wage must prominently display a minimum wage poster in a conspicuous and accessible place in each establishment where employees are employed. The poster must be at least 8.5 inches by 11 inches and in a format easily seen by employees.

State Prevailing Wage: Florida does not have a prevailing wage law; it was repealed in 1979.
