The Office of Wage-Hour administers the following laws:
- D.C. Minimum Wage Act Revision Act of 1992
- D.C. Wage Payment and Wage Collection Law
- D.C. Wage Garnishment Law
- Seats Law
Child Labor Laws: Generally, minors must be at least 14 years of age to work in the District of Columbia. Regulations cover permissible occupations, age restrictions, and working hours. Work permits are required for minors under the age of 18. Employers of minors must post a notice of child labor requirements.
The District of Columbia child labor requirements can be found in Title 32, Chapter 2 of the District of Columbia Code
Minimum Wage: Effective July 1, 2017, the minimum wage for the District of Columbia is $12.50 per hour. The minimum wage will thereafter increase annually based on the Consumer Price Index, or will be $1 higher than the federal rate, whichever is greater.
Overtime: Premium pay is required after 40 hours weekly.
