Vehicle titling - Wisconsin

Wisconsin offers title services online, through mail, and in-person. However, not all title transactions are eligible to be completed online. To apply for a certificate of title within Wisconsin by mail or in-person, the following items are required:

• Certificate of title signed by the previous owner;
• Completed form MV1;
• License plates, if applicable;
• Current Wisconsin driver license or a copy of the license, if applicable; and
• Title fee and sales tax payment by check or money order.

Other relevant information includes:

• The vehicle and/or vehicle title may be subject to sales and use tax,
• Wisconsin generally allows credit for tax paid to another state, and
• Vehicle identification number (VIN) inspections aren't typically required.
