Vehicle titling - Virginia

The following items may be required to title your vehicle within Virginia:

• Completed application;
• Manufacturer's certificate of origin, if applicable;
• Bill of sale, if applicable;
• Properly assigned title, if applicable;
• Odometer reading; and
• Payment for all applicable fees and taxes.

Other relevant information includes:

• The vehicle and/or title may be subject to sales and use tax,
• Virginia generally allows credit for tax paid to another state,
• Inspections may be required depending on the county and/or city the vehicle resides in, and
• Electronic titling is available for customers who meet the requirements.

Agency: Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles.

Fees: There are fees associated with titling a vehicle within Virginia, including a $15 title fee.
