The following items are typically required to obtain a car title within Utah:
- Application for Utah title;
- Original certificate of title (to transfer a title);
- Driver license;
- Emissions and vehicle identification number (VIN) inspection certificates, if applicable; and
- All taxes and applicable fees.
Other relevant information includes:
- The vehicle and/or title may be subject to sales and use tax;
- Utah generally allows credit for tax paid to another state;
- Vehicles to be registered within Salt Lake, Davis, Utah, Weber, or Cache county may require an emission inspection; and
- Vehicle identification number (VIN) inspections are required for out-of-state vehicles.
Agency: Utah State Tax Commission, Division of Motor Vehicles.
