Items required to obtain a vehicle title within Texas may include, but aren't limited to:
- A current photo identification that contains a unique identification number (such as a driver's license);
- Manufacturer's certificate of origin, if applicable;
- Properly assigned title, if applicable;
- Notarized bill of sale, if applicable; and
- Proof of auto insurance and vehicle inspection, if applicable.
Other relevant information includes:
- The vehicle and/or title may be subject to sales and use tax,
- A $90 new resident tax is imposed on any vehicle purchased outside of Texas, and
- Vehicle identification number (VIN) inspections are required for out-of-state vehicles.
Agency: Texas Department of Transportation.
Fees: There are fees associated with titling a vehicle within Texas, including a standard title fee that typically ranges from $28 to $33.
