To obtain a vehicle title within Pennsylvania, the following items are typically required:
- Completed application (Form MV-1);
- Pennsylvania driver's license, photo identification, or U.S. Common Access Card (CAC);
- Current vehicle title;
- Vehicle identification number (VIN) verification or tracing;
- Proof of car insurance that includes the name and address of the insured individual, VIN number, policy number, and policy expiration; and
- Payment for all car title fees and taxes.
Other relevant information includes:
- The vehicle and/or title may be subject to sales and use tax,
- Pennsylvania generally allows credit for tax paid to another state, and
- VIN verification is required for out-of-state vehicles, as well as tractors and trucks regardless of where they were purchased.
Agency: Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Driver and Vehicle Services.
Fees: There are fees associated with titling a vehicle within Pennsylvania, including a $67 original title fee.
