Vehicle titling - North Dakota

In addition to the North Dakota vehicle title application, applicants should generally provide the following documents:

• Valid North Dakota driver license or North Dakota photo identification card;
• Manufacturer's certificate of origin, completed and signed, for a new car title;
• Current certificate of title for a used car title;
• Bill of sale or purchase order;
• Odometer disclosure, if applicable;
• A valid automobile insurance card displaying your name, policy number, and expiration date; and
• A check, money order, or credit/debit card for payment.

Other relevant information includes:

• The vehicle and/or title may be subject to state or local excise tax,
• North Dakota allows credit for tax paid to another state, and
• Most vehicles aren't required to be inspected.
