In addition to the North Dakota vehicle title application, applicants should generally provide the following documents:
- Valid North Dakota driver license or North Dakota photo identification card;
- Manufacturer's certificate of origin, completed and signed, for a new car title;
- Current certificate of title for a used car title;
- Bill of sale or purchase order;
- Odometer disclosure, if applicable;
- A valid automobile insurance card displaying your name, policy number, and expiration date; and
- A check, money order, or credit/debit card for payment.
Other relevant information includes:
- The vehicle and/or title may be subject to state or local excise tax,
- North Dakota allows credit for tax paid to another state, and
- Most vehicles aren't required to be inspected.
Agency: North Dakota Department of Transportation — Motor Vehicle.
Fees: There are fees associated with titling a vehicle within North Dakota, including a $5 title fee.
