To obtain a vehicle title within Illinois, vehicle owners must submit an application for vehicle transaction (Form VSD 190). Additionally, motorists must submit the following:
The vehicle title or manufacturer's certificate of origin;
- An odometer reading;
- Payment for vehicle use tax, if applicable;
- Payment for titling and registration fees (if titling and registering at the same time);
- The number of the vehicle's temporary registration permit, if applicable; and
- Tax form RUT-25 or RUT-50, if applicable.
Other relevant information includes:
- The vehicle and/or title may be subject to sales and use tax;
- Idaho offers expedited title service for an additional $30 fee;
- Vehicle identification number (VIN) inspections are often not required, except where vehicle identification is in question;
- Idaho offers an electronic registration and title service; and
- Off-road motorcycles and ATVs are titled but not registered.
Agency: The Office of the Illinois Secretary of State, Vehicle Services.
Fees: There are fees associated with titling a vehicle within Illinois, including a $165 title fee.
