Vehicle titling - Idaho

All vehicles operated or pulled on public highways must be titled. This includes cars, trucks, motorcycles, travel trailers, transport trailers, and boat or utility trailers that have an unladen weight of 2,000 pounds or more. Idaho law requires vehicles to be titled within 30 days of the purchase date.

The following items are required to obtain an Idaho title:

• A title or manufacturer's certificate of origin for the vehicle;
• A vehicle identification number (VIN) affidavit of inspection;
• An odometer disclosure statement;
• A bill of sale;
• Documents authorizing a signature;
• An application for title; and
• Sales tax, title fee, and other fees.

Other relevant information includes:

• The vehicle and/or title may be subject to sales and use tax,
• VIN inspections are required to title any vehicle not currently titled within Idaho, and
• Vehicles must be titled within Idaho prior to being registered within the state.

Fees: There are fees associated with titling a vehicle within Idaho, including a $14 statutory title fee. Counties within Idaho may also impose their own administration fee on titles in addition to the statutory title fee. The highest administration fee is currently $18.75 in Blaine County.
