- Any implement of husbandry which is only incidentally operated or moved upon a highway,
- Any special equipment, and
- Any vehicles transported under a special permit.
Agency: Department of Administration; see Regulatory Agencies for address(es).
License plate display
Alaska law requires all passenger vehicles, motorcycles, motorhomes, trucks, vans, trailers, and APV's to display one license plate on the rear of the vehicle. For commercial vehicles that weigh over 10,001 pounds, the plate is required to be displayed on the front of the vehicle. A month and year tab must be displayed on the plate.
International Registration Plan
Alaska does not participate in the International Registration Plan (IRP). All commercial vehicles that enter the state must obtain an Alaskan registration.
Fees
Registration fees are based on the manufacturer's advertised unladen weight or upon the actual unladen weight provided by the owner, and are subject to the approval of the DMV. Most registration fees for commercial vehicles range from $180 to $662. A one-time registration fee of $20 is available for commercial trailers. Other fees may include the title, plate transfer, and duplicate title.
