The owner of a regulated vehicle, a public service vehicle, or a commercial truck that is not a regulated vehicle, must have painted on each side of the vehicle, in a conspicuous place and manner, a sign showing the owner’s name (or logo or graphic) that identifies the owner.
If the owner’s name is in letters and numbers, each figure must be at least 5 centimetres tall and 5 centimetres wide and in a color that contrasts with the background.
Effective July 1, 2025 the regulated vehicle markings must include the National Safety Code (NSC) number of the registered owner (clause 9(1)(b) of the Regulation).
A regulated vehicle is defined as a commercial truck, self-propelled public service vehicle, a school bus, or another motor vehicle that meets either or both of the following:
- Has a registered gross weight of 4,500 kilograms or more; or
- Has a seating capacity of 11 or more persons, including the driver.
