Summary of differences between federal and state regulations
Tennessee has no substantial laws differing from the National Labor Relations Act regarding union related unfair labor practices in private sector employment.
The state does require that employers place a notice of any current strike or lockout in any advertisement for employment (Tennessee Code Section 50-1-102).
Right to work
The state does have a right to work law. It is illegal to deny work because of union membership or nonmembership. It is also unlawful to exclude individuals from employment for payment of or failure to pay union or employee organization dues.
