Summary of differences between federal and state regulations
North Carolina has no substantial labor relations or collective bargaining law differing from the National Labor Relations Act regarding private sector employment.
Right to work
North Carolina does have a right to work law. Membership in labor organizations cannot be a required condition of employment, nor can abstention from membership in a labor organization be a condition of employment.
No employer can require, as a condition of employment or continuation of employment, a person to pay any dues, fees, or other charges of any kind to any labor union or labor organization.
