Summary of differences between federal and state regulations
Iowa has no substantial laws differing from the National Labor Relations Act or Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act regarding unions in private sector employment.
Public employment
Iowa has specific labor relations and collective bargaining laws for public employees.
Right to work
The state does have a right-to-work law. It is prohibited to deprive persons the right to work because of membership in, affiliation with, withdrawal or expulsion from, or refusal to join, any labor union, organization, or association, and any contract which contravenes this policy is illegal and void.
