Dangerous goods transport

An agreement respecting administration of the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act, 1992 was signed by representatives of Transport Canada in 1995 and the Province of Prince Edward Island (PEI) in 1996.

Hazardous waste shipped out of PEI includes:

• waste paint
• tetrachloroethylene (used by dry cleaners
• flammable liquids
• naphtha petroleum
• waste batteries
• poisonous liquids
• occasional PCBs and aerosols
• infectious substances
• corrosive liquids/solids
• pesticides

Drivers transporting dangerous material from PEI must have completed a special training course and successfully obtained a Transporting of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Certificate.
