Dangerous goods transport
An agreement respecting administration of the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act, 1992 was signed by representatives of Transport Canada and the Province of British Columbia in 2004.
British Columbia 's Transport of Dangerous Goods (TDG) program promotes safety in the province in conjunction with the federal TDG Program. The provincial program is limited to road transportation, while the federal program focuses on all transportation modes and the inter-jurisdictional movement of dangerous goods.
Provincial regulations concerning road transportation are incorporated from the federal standard, resulting in a high degree of harmonization among the British Columbia, federal, and other provincial requirements.
The provincial regulations focus on:
- Interpretation, application and
- requirements respecting transportation of dangerous goods;
- Inspection, detention, and removal;
- Certificates and reports; and
- Offences and penalties.
Miscellaneous requirements include evidence of financial responsibility and local government control of transport on highways.
