There are no requirements for temporary operating authority registration in Prince Edward Island.
Prince Edward Island law provides for full reciprocity on registration fees to all carriers from provinces or states where similar privileges are granted to Prince Edward Island registered vehicles. This reciprocity does not extend to vehicles that pick up freight at points within Prince Edward Island and deliver to points in Prince Edward Island.
For vehicles plated in jurisdictions not reciprocal with Prince Edward Island, the province will issue a five-day Special Trip Permit, which is valid for one entrance into the province.
Fees:
Vehicle Work Permit: The Vehicle Work Permit may be purchased by a driver and/or carrier entering the province with a vehicle not legally registered for Prince Edward Island, and planning to use the vehicle to conduct work. The permit is available to companies or owners to come into the province for short periods of time without registering their vehicles in the province, thereby saving companies time in having vehicles inspected and paperwork prepared to register for Prince Edward Island.
Prince Edward Island has a Gasoline Tax Act, and carriers are subject to its provisions. All truckers operating a commercial vehicle with a gross mass exceeding 12,000 kilograms (26,000 pounds) who wish to enter the province must obtain a Fuel Permit or a Single Trip Fuel Permit or be licensed in an IFTA jurisdiction and display the IFTA decals on the vehicle.
