Summary of differences between federal and state regulations
The Washington Department of Labor and Industries, Specialty Compliance Services Division, Employment Standards Program administers and enforces labor standards which have been enacted for the protection of state workers.
Learners
- The subminimum wage rates permitted for each learner occupation during the authorized learning period may not be less than 85 percent of the minimum wage.
- A learner certificate may be issued for a period of not longer than one year.
Student learners
A special student learner certificate may be issued for a period not to exceed the length of one school year unless the director finds that a longer period is justified by extraordinary circumstances.
