Summary of differences between federal and state regulations
The New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development administers labor standards which have been enacted for the protection of state workers.
New Jersey adopts the federal wage laws, including the minimum wage rates described in the federal FLSA. Therefore, there are no differences between federal and state subminimum wage regulations; however, individuals whose earning or productive capacity is impaired by physical or mental deficiency or injury, may be paid no less than 50 percent of minimum wage.
