Summary of differences between federal and state regulations
The Nebraska Department of Labor, Safety and Labor Standards Division administers and enforces civil rights and labor standards which have been enacted for the protection of state workers.
The state of Nebraska allows a minimum wage exception for student-learners in a vocational training program at 75 percent of the state minimum wage rate. There is also provision for a training wage rate at 75 percent of the federal minimum wage which can be paid to new employees younger than twenty years of age for ninety days from the date of hire. Tipped employees may also be paid less than the minimum wage.
