The District of Columbia Department of Employment Services administers and enforces civil rights and labor standards which have been enacted for the protection of district workers. The district sets the minimum wage at $1 above the federal minimum wage.
The district allows for the payment of less than the minimum wage to handicapped persons after issuance of a certificate by the U.S. Department of Labor.
