Summary of differences between federal and state regulations
The Connecticut Department of Labor, Wage and Workplace Standards Division administers and enforces civil rights and labor standards which have been enacted for the protection of district workers. The state of Connecticut minimum wage law automatically increases the minimum wage rate to ½ to 1 percent above the rate set in the Fair Labor Standards Act if the federal minimum wage rate equals or becomes higher than the state minimum.
While generally following the federal rule in the payment of subminimum wages, the state allows some exemptions from paying the minimum wage.
