Summary of differences between federal and state regulations
The Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development administers and enforces civil rights and labor standards which have been enacted for the protection of district workers. The state of Alaska has set a minimum wage rate of $7.15.
Until December 12, 2022, the state of Alaska generally follows the federal rule in the payment of subminimum wages. Effective December 12, 2022, employers are no longer allowed to pay Alaskans with a disability subminimum wages. (Senate Bill 185)
There is also a lengthy list of employments that are exempt from the minimum wage law in the statutes.
