Low-level Radioactive Waste
New York State requires a Part 381 permit for highway transport of low-level radioactive waste.

Large Quantity Radioactive Material
The following special requirements apply to movements of overweight vehicles carrying a large quantity radioactive material:
- The permittee shall comply with all applicable regulations in Title 49, Code of Federal Regulations;
- Each vehicle operating under an overweight radioactive permit shall be inspected by a New York State Police Inspector and a valid "Certificate of Inspection" shall be carried in each vehicle. At least three working days’ notice must be given to the permit agent for a vehicle inspection to be scheduled;
- The permittee shall notify the permit agent prior to each shipment made during the permit period; and
- The permittee shall notify the permit agent immediately if an accident occurs.
