Iowa incorporates by reference the federal regulations for Hazardous Waste Reporting and Solid Waste; however, the state adds further requirements.

A summary of the additional requirements includes the following:

  • Pursuant to Iowa Code section 455B.301(29)“b,” the commission has determined that solid waste includes those wastes IAC 4/19/23 Environmental Protection[567] Ch 100, p.7 exempted from federal hazardous waste regulation pursuant to 40 CFR 261.4(b) as amended through November 16, 2016, except to the extent that any such exempted substances are liquid wastes or wastewater.
  • Annual reports of solid waste environmental management systems shall be submitted to the department by September 1 of each year and include all the requirements in 567—111.6
