A forklift that is lifted off the ground and is being transported on the back of a truck is considered a load. When combination length exceeds 75 ft, the load must be confined within the exterior dimensions of the vehicle. To the rear, the load cannot extend beyond the last point of support for a greater distance than that equal to two-thirds of the length of the wheelbase. The wheelbase of a semitrailer is considered the distance between the rearmost axle of the towing vehicle and the rearmost axle of the semitrailer.

Except as otherwise provided in the following table, or in California Vehicle Code Section 35551.5, the total gross weight in pounds imposed on the highway by any group of two or more consecutive axles shall not exceed that given for the respective distance in the following table:
